My name is Alain, I'm 55 and I started my first models back when I was a teenager.

Passionated by 18^th and 19^th century ships, I started by assembling kits. But seeing the mediocrity of some pieces, I soon switched to making my own realisations.

Later I could not find adequate kits for some ships I was searching for, and I started making my own entire models from photos and some documentations treating of wooden model ships.

Unfortunately, the lack of knowledge and precise plans would not allow my scale model

The discovery of Ancre works and monographs were a revolution for me.

I could learn true building techniques, as well as the historical aspect I was missing.

One must admit that admiralty model making asks for a great determination and perseverance, along with many more qualities and means.

Obviously, some will say everything is doable with little personal investment and tools, but many years and a lot of talent. Others will not see things that way, primarily aiming to have the chance to treat themselves by realising an exceptional model without spending a lifetime on it.

Old model ships are often adorned with sculptures, and some parts are particularly difficult to make. It takes a certain talent, or a lot of practice, and the results are not always there.

My years of experience have gradually led me to explore the whole world of ship models building : models, materials, techniques, suppliers… and it has to be said that in France, and even in Europe, there is a cruel lack of "good suppliers" for quality, specific fittings and accessories.
